Neuronal Function and Dysfunction

This sketch illustrates how temporal and spatial features of brain function, i.e. structural ("hardware") and functional connectivity ("software") integrate such that we can model brain function for exploration of and intervention in brain function. The key issue is to understand the brain as a critical system working at a point where a small cause (perturbation) has a big effect: a minute shift in the working parameters will lead to a significant "state" change, e.g. from function to dysfunction. This is the lead concept of our work.
