Neuroimmunology & Multiple Sclerosis

The current pace of development in neuroimmunology is breathtaking. The dynamics in this field can be illustrated by (1) the large number of newly approved medications and immunmodulatory drugs under development for multiple sclerosis, (2) the rapidly expanding number of detectable neuronal and glial autoantibodies in synaptic encephalitis, neuromyelitis optic and allied diseases and (3) the development of modern, evidence-based, patient-centered counselling tools in patient care.

The neuroimmunology research group has successfully addressed all these areas of research. Especially the close collaboration between patient-centred, multi-modal, longitudinal and cross-sectional, clinical and imaging characterisation in the neuroimmunologic outpatient clinic and day clinic with the multi-dimensional flow-cytometry and autoantibody-panel analysis in the neuroimmunology lab of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry (Director: Prof. Dr. R. Junker) offers a modern, versatile and flexible platform for neuroimmunologic research activities.
