Axial-postural disorders

Our research group focuses on postural pathologies of the trunk and head. The axial symptoms include camptocormia (flexion of the trunk), the Pisa syndrome (lateral flexion of the trunk) and the dropped head syndrome. They are all involuntarily and non fixed. Postural deformities can occur in the context of a variety of neurological disorders, but are most frequently found in movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s syndromes or dystonia) and in muscular diseases. Their etiology has mostly not been clarified, yet. From the patients’ point of view these axial-postural disorders are often the severest impairment of their illness.
