CamptoApp

We have evaluated different methods to define and measure the bending angle in camptocormia. The details of our evaluation are published in this article.

Here we offer the orignial CamptoApp to measure these consensus angles in your own images.

We now provide a new version of the application with an additional function to measure the side bending angle and some other optimizations for other divices with small displays. You can use this direct link to the new app to start your own measures.

Our web application is optimized for desktop PCs and tablets. We recommend to use the Firefox browser, but all other current browsers should also work.

Total Camptocormia Angle Upper Camptocormia Angle

Please read the following recommendations before using CamptoApp©

Photo:

  • Please note that for a more precise assessment of the anatomic landmarks patients should not wear clothing that cover the body shape.

  • Assure yourself that the photo is taken with the lens on level of the patient’s hip and from a strict lateral view.

  • The lateral malleolus and the spinous process of C7 should be clearly visible.

Before measurement:

  • Click on the “browse”-button and upload a suitable photo of your patient from any directory.

  • Using a smartphone you can decide if you like to take a photo directly or if you want to upload a picture stored on your device. - currently under construction -

  • If the photo does not seem to fit properly into the application’s window please choose “fit to window”.

  • If the patient´s view is not orientated to the right, please choose “Mirror”.

Total Camptocormia (general method)

To measure the “Total-CC” angle you must shift the point labelled “ML” on to the lateral malleolus, the point “L5” to the suspected location of the spinous process of vertebra L5 (shortly below waistline or at the beginning of the rounding of the bottom) and last but not least the point “C7” to the spinous process of vertebra C7 (most likely at the level of the collar). The angle is show automatically in the App.

Upper Camptocormia (Optional method)

This method of angle measurement has been developed for cases of upper camptocormia only. This variation is defined by a fulcrum of the trunk bending, which is sited clearly above the lumbar spine region. When you are unsure if your current case fulfils the criteria of “Upper-CC” please utilise the “Total-CC”.

To measure the “Upper-CC” angle you must shift the point labelled “L5” to the suspected location of the spinous process of vertebra L5 (shortly below waistline or at the beginning of the rounding of the bottom), the point “FC” to the vertebral fulcrum located above the thoracic part of the spine (the point with the greatest distance to the spine and with the dotted line only in contact with that point) and the point “C7” to the spinous process of vertebra C7 (most likely at the level of the collar). The angle is show automatically in the App.

About:

CamptoApp© is an application developed by the team of postural and axial disorders of the Department of Neurology, UKSH, Kiel University. The provided measurement methods are based on an international consensus of scientists working in the field of movement disorders and camptocormia. It’s meant to be a free tool supporting physicians during their clinical diagnostic routine and in research purposes.
